NEWBURY — Vermont State Police troopers faced resistance during the arrest of a wanted fugitive and an accomplice at a residence on Swamp Road on April 19.

Ryan Sherman, 32, of Newbury, was located by troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks who were executing a no-bail fugitive warrant stemming from a parole violation.

Upon arrival at the residence, individuals present confirmed Sherman was hiding in the attic.

During the operation, Tanya Holbrook, 29, also of Newbury, interfered with law enforcement efforts.

Holbrook is accused of assaulting a law enforcement official, impeding a public officer, hindering arrest, and resisting arrest.

Sherman, upon being taken into custody, attempted to evade law enforcement by fleeing into the surrounding woods.

He now faces additional charges of escape or attempt to escape and resisting arrest.

Both Sherman and Holbrook were detained, and the incident remains under investigation.

Further details will be provided as the case develops.
