Caribou raccoon tests positive for rabies, police urge caution

CARIBOU — Local authorities at the Caribou Police Department announced that a raccoon found on Lombard Road has tested positive for rabies, prompting a cautionary notice for residents to report any wildlife exhibiting odd behavior.

The department made the announcement after receiving notification of the test results.

Citizens are asked to stay vigilant and report cases of wildlife acting strangely, finding animals dead under suspicious circumstances, such as under a porch, or encountering roadkill.

Such reports should be directed to the Caribou Police Department at 493-3301.
