Norwalk man extradited from Florida to face sexual assault charge

NORWALK — A man accused of sexual assault was extradited from Miami to Norwalk to face charges after a lengthy investigation by local authorities and the United States Marshals Service.

The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Victims Unit began investigating the complaint on June 6.

Detective Patrick English identified Fran Garcia-Pineda, 31, as the suspect in the assault following a comprehensive investigation.

Garcia-Pineda was residing in Miami when Stamford Superior Court issued an extraditable arrest warrant for his arrest.

Working in conjunction with a Norwalk police officer assigned to the United States Marshals Service Violent Fugitive Task Force, Detective English helped locate and arrest Garcia-Pineda on April 4.

After being taken into custody in Miami, Garcia-Pineda was extradited back to Norwalk, arriving on April 16.

Garcia-Pineda, whose address is listed as 781 NW 112th Street in Miami, Florida, has been charged with third-degree sexual assault.

His bond was set at $150,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 17.
