New Haven police detain one, recover firearm after shots fired

NEW HAVEN — The New Haven Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident that occurred in the vicinity of Day Street and George Street on April 16 at 7:23 p.m.

Authorities received three separate ShotSpotter notifications indicating multiple rounds fired, in addition to calls from concerned citizens.

Upon arrival, officers detained one individual and recovered a firearm.

A second suspect is believed to have fled before the police could secure the scene.

Investigators have established a crime scene in the 80 block of Waverly and on Day Street, where numerous shell casings were found.

Despite the gunfire, no injuries have been reported thus far.

The investigation is ongoing as police work to locate the second suspect and determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.

The New Haven Police Department urges anyone with information to come forward and assist with the case.
