WAKEFIELD — A juvenile was seriously injured in a dirt bike accident on April 16 after losing control and crashing on an illegal trail.

NH Fish and Game Law Enforcement Division, along with Wakefield Police and Fire Departments, responded to the incident around 5 p.m. following notification by State Police Dispatch.

Officials discovered the juvenile in the middle of the trail with serious injuries after the rider went over a hill, lost control of the bike, and collided with a stump.

The injured biker, who was returning home from a friend’s house, was transported over land to an awaiting ambulance.

The patient was then taken to Portsmouth Hospital for treatment of the serious injuries sustained in the crash.

Conservation officers cited operator error and excessive speed as contributing factors to the accident.

They remind the public of the importance of riding within one’s limits and using only designated Off-Highway Recreational Vehicle (OHRV) trails.
