BOSTON — Boston Police Department officers arrested a Mattapan man Tuesday on charges related to an arson incident that occurred earlier in the day.

At about 1:18 p.m., officers assigned to District B-3 and members of the Fire Investigation Unit took Ladarrell Murchison, 30, into custody following an investigation into a fire at 27 W Main Street in Mattapan.

Authorities were called to the scene after reports of a blaze, which was reportedly started when an unidentified male suspect shattered the front window of the residence and set fire to the curtains and surrounding area.

The suspect also allegedly broke the back door window with a shovel and hurled a shopping bag containing two incendiary devices into the kitchen.

Officers recovered two plastic bottles at the scene, which they suspected contained an accelerant.

After an extensive investigation, police identified Murchison as the suspect and located him at 85 Deering Road, where he was subsequently arrested.

Murchison faces charges including arson of a dwelling house, attempted arson, breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, and placing or throwing explosives.

He is slated to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court.
