WINDHAM — A Hampstead woman was arrested early Sunday morning after being caught driving the wrong way on Interstate 93, according to the New Hampshire State Police.

Officials said they received reports just after 5 a.m. of a vehicle heading northbound in the southbound lanes from the Massachusetts border.

The first call placed the vehicle near mile marker 6.8 in Windham, with additional calls confirming the vehicle’s continued wrong-way travel.

Trooper Kevin Gazlay, responding from the Manchester area, was informed by another caller that the vehicle had reached exit 4.

Gazlay proceeded south and successfully intercepted the vehicle at mile marker 13.6 in Londonderry, preventing any further danger.

The driver, identified as 31-year-old Stephanie McPhee of Hampstead, was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon.

McPhee is due to appear in Derry District Court in May.

The New Hampshire State Police are asking anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Trooper Kevin Gazlay at (603)-223-4381.
