Newfane man charged with domestic assault, daughter found safe

NEWFANE — A Newfane man was arrested on suspicion of domestic assault after police responded to a report of a runaway juvenile late Saturday evening.

Vermont State Police were called to a residence on Dover Road at about 7:38 p.m. after receiving a call from Charles Newell, 46, claiming his daughter had fled the home.

Upon locating the juvenile, authorities conducted an investigation which led to the discovery that Newell had allegedly assaulted her.

Newell was taken into custody and processed at the Westminster Barracks.

He was subsequently released with a criminal citation.

He is expected to appear before the Vermont Superior Court, Windham Criminal Division, on April 15 at 12:30 p.m. to answer to the charge.
