SPRINGFIELD — In a significant drug seizure, Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU) arrested two men on trafficking charges Thursday.

At about 3:30 p.m., FIU detectives, led by Captain Brian Keenan, were surveilling Omar Wills when they observed multiple suspected drug transactions throughout the city.

Wills later parked on the 1000 block of Worthington Street and was joined by Yadiel Martinez, who is currently facing two drug trafficking cases.

After a traffic stop, officers recovered over 37 grams of Fentanyl, roughly 1100 bags of heroin weighing 22 grams, 84.5 grams of crack-cocaine, $740 in cash, and 150 bags of suboxone strips.

Martinez, 22, and Wills, 49, both from Springfield, were taken into custody.

Martinez’s charges include trafficking heroin and fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, and conspiracy to violate drug law.

Wills faces similar drug trafficking charges, along with vehicle-related offenses including operation without a license and concealing vehicle ID.
