PORTLAND — A Portland man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly trafficking fentanyl, according to a press release from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) and the Portland Police Department.

James Ferrar, 30, faces three counts of unlawful trafficking in Schedule W drugs following his arrest at approximately 1 p.m. on April 11.

MDEA agents and Portland officers took Ferrar into custody without incident as he delivered fentanyl to an undercover agent in the west end of Portland.

The agencies have been investigating Ferrar for the past month as he reportedly distributed fentanyl throughout the west end area.

Undercover purchases from Ferrar were part of the joint operation.

After his arrest, agents executed a search warrant at Ferrar’s apartment at 252 Vaughn Street.

They seized over 100 grams of fentanyl, digital scales, packaging materials, and other items indicative of illegal drug trafficking.

The fentanyl, prepared for resale, has an approximate street value of $10,000.

Ferrar faces additional charges related to the drugs found in his apartment.

Ferrar was booked into the Cumberland County Jail, with bail set at $1,000 based on the warrants.

An arrest photo is available through the County Jail’s records.

While Ferrar has been arrested, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The MDEA and local law enforcement urge individuals with substance use disorders to seek help by calling 211 or texting their zip code to 898-211 for available resources.
