Truck driver charged in fatal Moretown crash

MORETOWN — A two-vehicle collision on VT Route 100 near Ward Hill resulted in a fatality and the arrest of a Canadian truck driver, police said Thursday.

The crash occurred at 6:46 a.m. under clear weather and road conditions.

Satnam Singh, 24, of Brampton, Ontario, was operating a 2019 Freightliner FM2 when he was involved in the accident with a 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek driven by 39-year-old Rosetta Weber of Waitsfield.

Weber sustained fatal injuries, while Singh suffered minor injuries and was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The Freightliner sustained front end and driver side damage, and the Subaru was reported to have all-around damage.

Singh, after receiving medical attention at Central Vermont Medical Center, was arrested and charged with gross negligent operation with death resulting.

He was processed at the Berlin Barracks and is scheduled for arraignment at the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Barre at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, April 12.

He is currently being held at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury on $150,000 cash bail.

VT Route 100 was closed for investigation and cleanup but was reopened to traffic around 5 p.m. on Thursday.
