Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in New London shopping center

NEW LONDON — A motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian in the New London Shopping Center parking lot resulted in critical injuries and subsequent death of an 88-year-old woman on April 10.

According to the New London Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:18 p.m. when Geneva DeLabry of Groton Long Point was hit by a car driven by 25-year-old Tamara Veillette of Oakdale.

DeLabry had been walking across the parking lot after exiting a business in the center, located off South Frontage Rd.

Police and emergency personnel provided immediate medical assistance until the arrival of the New London Fire Department and Yale New Haven Hospital Paramedics.

DeLabry was transported to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in critical condition but later passed away from her injuries.

The New London Police Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash.

Veillette remained at the scene and is cooperating with the authorities.

Following the accident, DeLabry’s next of kin were notified of her passing.

She was identified as Geneva DeLabry, born on July 11, 1935.

The New London Police are seeking information from any witnesses.
