NORWOOD — A 17-year-old male was arrested Wednesday after leading Norwood Police Department officers on a foot chase through residential streets, prompting a brief lockdown at a nearby school.

The suspect, wanted on an outstanding warrant, fled his Nahatan Street home upon noticing detectives and uniformed officers approaching.

Accompanied by Department of Youth Services officers, law enforcement pursued the juvenile across Nahatan and Nichols streets and onto Wheelock Avenue.

Saint Catherine of Siena school was advised to lock down as a precautionary measure, although the chase did not progress in that direction.

The subject entered a residence on Wheelock Avenue, causing the homeowner to evacuate after noticing police activity.

The juvenile, who moved to the second floor and threatened to jump from a window, was eventually persuaded to surrender without further incident.

He was charged with breaking and entering, placing a person in fear, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.

During the chase, one officer sustained a minor injury but did not seek hospital treatment.

The school was informed when the situation was under control.

Post-arrest, the juvenile was handed over to the Department of Youth Services and remains in their custody.

Contrary to social media reports, there was no robbery at D&G Deli related to this incident.
