Taunton man found after missing person alert

TAUNTON — Manuel G. Alves, the 69-year-old Taunton resident who was reported missing earlier today, has been located, according to the Taunton Police Department.

Alves, who was last seen leaving his Winthrop Street residence between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for his morning walk, was found safe.

The search began after Alves did not return home as usual.

Family members expressed concern due to his undiagnosed dementia and episodes of intermittent confusion.

Before being found, Alves was described as 5 feet 9 inches tall with an average build.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, and red sneakers.

Alves, who is a speaker of Cape Verdean Creole, does not drive and was believed to be on foot.

He also did not have a cellphone.

Alves previously lived in Dorchester, Massachusetts, before residing in Taunton.

Details of Alves’s condition and where he was found have not been released at this time.
