Taunton man with reported dementia found safe

TAUNTON — A 69-year-old Taunton man, Manuel G. Alves, who was reported missing after he did not return from his morning walk, has been located, authorities announced today.

Alves, described as 5’9″ with an average build, was last seen leaving his Winthrop Street home between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. for his routine walk.

According to the family, Alves, who wears a black jacket, blue jeans, and red sneakers, suffers from undiagnosed dementia and experiences intermittent confusion.

The Taunton Police Department had sought the public’s assistance in locating Alves, emphasizing that he does not drive and was believed to be on foot.

Alves does not own a cellphone, which added to the urgency of the search.

A previous resident of Dorchester, Alves is known to speak Cape Verdean Creole.

The Taunton Police Department has expressed gratitude to the community for their help in ensuring his safe return.
