New Haven police investigate shooting, one injured

NEW HAVEN — The New Haven Police Department is investigating a shooting incident after responding to multiple ShotSpotter activations on the evening of April 7.

At approximately 6:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Starr Street and Newhall Street following the ShotSpotter alerts.

Shortly after, another activation led police to Ivy Street.

Authorities discovered a crime scene in a driveway on Hazel Street, where several houses and vehicles had been hit by gunfire.

Although no injuries were initially reported at the scene, a 19-year-old man from New Haven later arrived at Yale-New Haven Hospital with gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported by a private vehicle, and hospital medical staff confirmed that he sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Detectives have since responded to the hospital to conduct an interview with the victim.

The New Haven Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident or anyone who might have witnessed the shooting to come forward.
