Driver cited for excessive speed in Shaftsbury

SHAFTSBURY — A Maryland man faces charges after Vermont State Police clocked his vehicle traveling at 95 miles per hour on US Route 7, authorities said.

Orion Henry Waldmann Carrera, 19, of Frederick, Maryland, was stopped by troopers at approximately 12:32 a.m. after his black Subaru Forester was observed speeding north near mile marker 18, where the posted limit is 55 miles per hour.

Lidar technology confirmed the excessive speed, according to the police report.

Carrera was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Bennington Criminal Division on May 20 at 8:15 a.m. to answer to the charge of Excessive Speed.

In addition to the court citation, he received a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for speeding, carrying a waiver amount of $599.
