MASARDIS — A tractor trailer crashed into a train on Route 11 just after 1 p.m. this afternoon, causing the train to derail, Maine State Police reported.
The collision occurred when the truck, failing to stop in time, struck the train as it was crossing the roadway.
Authorities are now estimating a 2-3 day cleanup process, during which Route 11 will remain closed until further notice.
Motorists are advised to adhere to the posted detour routes and avoid the vicinity of the crash site.
The Maine Forest Service has provided photographic evidence from the scene.
