Sunapee police warn of fictitious missing person post on Facebook

SUNAPEE — The Sunapee Police Department issued a warning Tuesday about a fabricated Facebook post claiming a juvenile had gone missing in the area.

Officials stated that the social media post, which was shared widely within the community, falsely depicted a supposed missing person from Sunapee.

The same post, with identical descriptions of the juvenile, had appeared on several other community pages, each suggesting that the child had run away from a different town.

Authorities confirmed that there have been no reports of a missing person in Sunapee, and no investigation has been initiated regarding such a case.

The police department is cautioning residents to be vigilant about the accuracy of information shared online and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
