WALLINGFORD — A 70-year-old Rutland man was injured in a car crash when a large tree branch fell onto his vehicle on US Route 7 during a rainstorm, police said.

Kenneth Blanchard was driving his 2010 Cadillac sedan northbound near Hartsboro Road at 2:35 p.m. on April 3 when the branch struck his car, causing him to lose control.

The vehicle went off the road’s northbound shoulder and came to an uncontrolled rest, according to the Vermont State Police – Rutland Barracks.

Blanchard, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Rutland Regional Medical Center.

The car was totaled and the airbag was deployed upon impact.

The rainy weather and wet road conditions contributed to the dangerous situation.
