Portland police seek new leads in 1998 Denny’s homicide case

PORTLAND — The Portland Police Department continues to investigate the unsolved homicide of Robert Joyal, who was fatally stabbed during an altercation outside a Denny’s restaurant 25 years ago.

On April 4, 1998, at 1:00 a.m., Joyal was with friends at the Denny’s located at 1091 Congress Street when an argument involving a large group of people escalated, leading to Joyal’s death from stab wounds.

Despite the passage of time, detectives remain committed to bringing closure to the case and are asking for the public’s assistance.
