Mashpee police warn of social media sale scams

1 min read

MASHPEE — The Mashpee Police Department issued a scam alert today cautioning residents against social media posts that offer items for sale at significantly reduced prices, warning that these could be fraudulent schemes.

Authorities have observed an uptick in scammers who hack social media accounts and post these “items for sale,” only to request payment through popular platforms such as Venmo, Cash App, and Zelle.

The department strongly advises against paying for any item before seeing it in person.

The public is urged to exercise caution when engaging in online transactions and to ensure the legitimacy of the seller.

Police recommend verifying the identity of the person behind the post to avoid falling victim to these scams.

The Mashpee Police Department is committed to protecting the community and encourages anyone who encounters suspicious activities to report them immediately.
