New Bedford man faces trafficking charges after cocaine bust

NEW BEDFORD — A local man was arrested on charges of cocaine trafficking following a surveillance operation by police detectives.

On Monday, April 1, at around 11 p.m., detectives concluded an investigation targeting a suspected cocaine distribution operation at 89 Barrett Street.

The man under investigation, Andres Galvan Santana, 50, was observed by Det.

Nathaniel Almeida engaging in what appeared to be a drug transaction outside the residence.

During the encounter with detectives, Santana was found in possession of two plastic baggies containing approximately 261 grams of cocaine.

A subsequent search warrant executed at Santana’s home uncovered an additional 16 grams of the drug, along with digital scales and packaging materials typically used in drug distribution.

Santana was charged with trafficking cocaine in excess of 200 grams, a serious felony offense.
