FAIR HAVEN — A local man was taken into custody Saturday after a police investigation linked him to an act of vandalism at a supermarket parking lot.

Ryan M. Matteson, 40, of Apple Tree Lane, was arrested on charges of unlawful mischief, according to the Fair Haven Police Department.

The arrest came after investigators responded to a March 20 complaint of vandalism at Shaw’s Supermarket on Washington Street.

Matteson is accused of slashing a tire of a car that was parked in the supermarket’s parking lot.

During an interview with authorities, Matteson admitted to his involvement in the incident, police said.

Chief William Humphries, the investigating officer, stated that Matteson was issued a citation to appear in Rutland District Court to answer to the charges.

The date for the court appearance has not been disclosed.
