Child bitten by dog in Wellfleet, transported to Boston hospital

WELLFLEET — A 2-year-old child was bitten by a dog Sunday afternoon and subsequently flown to a Boston hospital for treatment, officials said.

The Wellfleet Police and Fire Departments responded to a call at 100 East Hill Road at approximately 2:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a dog bite incident.

The child, whose identity has not been released, was bitten by a Pitbull mix dog at the residence, according to authorities.

Emergency services transported the victim to Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Barnstable, from where the child was airlifted to a Boston hospital via Med Flight.

The injuries sustained by the child are not considered life-threatening.

Officials stated that all parties involved in the incident are known, and the Wellfleet Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the dog bite.

Further details have not been disclosed as the investigation remains ongoing.
