Driver seriously injured in I-95 crash at Hampton toll plaza

HAMPTON — A man was seriously injured Saturday when his pickup truck crashed into a concrete abutment at the Hampton Toll Plaza on Interstate 95 and caught fire.

The New Hampshire State Police responded to the crash at 4:11 p.m., where they found a 2021 Ford F-150 engulfed in flames.

The driver, Patrick Jones, 43, of South Portland, Maine, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while a child passenger escaped harm.

Hampton Fire/Rescue quickly extinguished the blaze, and Jones was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for treatment.

The child was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

According to the preliminary investigation, Jones’s vehicle was traveling northbound on I-95 when it abruptly changed lanes, leading to the crash and subsequent fire.

A toll attendant working nearby was unharmed.
