Benson woman faces criminal threatening charge in road rage incident

BENSON — A 54-year-old Benson woman, Cynthia Knipes, was cited for criminal threatening following a road rage incident involving a firearm, Vermont State Police reported on March 31.

The incident occurred on March 30 around 3:44 p.m. on Vt Rt 22a.

According to authorities, Knipes was driving south when Izabel Cushing, 20, from West Rutland, and Isaac Merrill, 21, from Benson, attempted to pass her vehicle.

Knipes reportedly blocked Merrill’s efforts to overtake her and subsequently displayed a firearm in a threatening manner to both Cushing and Merrill.

Vermont State Police from the Rutland Barracks responded to the scene following the notification of the incident. An investigation ensued, leading to an interview with Knipes on March 31.

Knipes is scheduled to appear at the Rutland Criminal Division at 10:00 a.m. on May 6 to respond to the charge of criminal threatening.
