Vernon police seize drugs, cash in traffic stop

VERNON — A routine traffic stop on Laurel Street near Grove Street led to a significant drug bust at 4:55 p.m. on March 29, Vernon police reported.

Officer on the scene observed drug paraphernalia in plain view, prompting a thorough search of the vehicle.

The search yielded 6.5 ounces of marijuana, 17.5 grams of crack cocaine, 22 packages of marijuana edibles, $8,979 in cash, and two cell phones.

The driver, identified as Andre Tilghman, 34, of 13 Highland Ave., is facing multiple charges including possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and tampering with physical evidence.

Other charges include interfering with a police officer, illegal window tints, and failure to wear a safety belt.

Tilghman is currently held on charges of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell or distribute, tampering with physical evidence, and interfering with a police officer.

The Vernon Police Department is handling the ongoing investigation, and further details will be released as the case progresses.
