Worcester police probe fatal pedestrian crash involving two seniors

WORCESTER — A routine coffee run turned tragic when an 88-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle operated by his companion in a parking lot off Park Avenue at Parker Street, according to the Worcester Police Department.

The incident occurred around 12:27 p.m. when Worcester police officers were called to the scene of the pedestrian crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the two men had just left a local coffee shop.

The 69-year-old driver entered their vehicle while the older man stood outside.

The driver then allegedly accelerated in reverse before moving forward, hitting the 88-year-old.

First responders, who were already treating the victim upon the police’s arrival, transported him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Worcester Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
