Wells River man arrested for road rage assault on elderly driver

WELLS RIVER — A road rage incident on Main St and Railroad St escalated into violence when a young man assaulted a senior citizen on March 29 at 10:37 a.m., according to Vermont State Police.

Authorities received a report of an assault in progress where the accused, Dylan Shaw, 22, of Woodsville, New Hampshire, allegedly used his vehicle to block another driven by John Scoppetta, 78, of Bradford.

Following the vehicular altercation, Shaw is reported to have physically attacked Scoppetta, causing minor injuries.

Responding police and EMS attended to Scoppetta at the scene.

Meanwhile, Haverill Police Department officers located Shaw shortly after the incident.

An investigation into the confrontation revealed that Shaw had deliberately stopped Scoppetta’s vehicle before assaulting him.

Later that day, Vermont State Police apprehended Shaw at a residence in Wells River.

He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Bradford Outpost for processing.

Shaw has been cited for simple assault and disorderly conduct.

After processing, he was released with a citation to respond to the charges at a later date.
