East Haven gym evacuated after bomb threat

EAST HAVEN — An unidentified sender’s email claiming a bomb was planted at a local Planet Fitness prompted evacuations of the fitness center, neighboring businesses, and nearby homes on March 28.

The East Haven Police Department received notification of the threat from the New Haven Police Department after the alarming email was sent to the fitness center located at 836 Foxon Road.

Authorities acted swiftly to secure the area and ensure public safety.

Upon arrival, the New Haven Police Bomb Squad conducted a thorough sweep of the building.

After a tense period for the community, officials determined that the bomb threat was unfounded.

Investigators believe that the East Haven Planet Fitness was not the only location targeted.

Multiple Planet Fitness locations reportedly received similar threats, indicating a potentially coordinated action against the company.

The incident remains under active investigation as authorities continue to search for the origin of the threatening email and the individual or group responsible.

Community members were allowed to return to the evacuated areas once the all-clear was given by law enforcement officials.
