Jeffersonville man faces multiple charges after domestic disturbance

JEFFERSONVILLE — A domestic disturbance call escalated into a violent confrontation on March 26, resulting in a Jeffersonville man facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

State Police were called to a residence on Edwards Road at 11:44 a.m. where they encountered Michael Martell, 44, allegedly after he had injured a family member during a domestic assault.

The situation intensified when Martell, armed with a weapon, lunged at a responding Trooper, attempting to inflict serious bodily harm.

Authorities also reported that Martell tried to set the residence ablaze and was noncompliant with the orders given by the officers at the scene.

Despite his resistance, State Police were able to take Martell into custody.

Following the arrest, Martell was transported to the Williston State Police Barracks for further processing on charges that include aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, domestic assault, fourth-degree arson, resisting arrest, aggravated disorderly conduct, and criminal threatening.

The Vermont State Police have not disclosed the identity of the victim, adhering to policies regarding victims of domestic violence.

The investigation into the incident continues.
