NORTH ADAMS — A routine property check by a Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts Police Department officer on East Main Street led to a significant drug bust and the arrest of two individuals for cocaine trafficking on March 22.

The MCLA officer, who was patrolling the area Friday night, spotted a male trespassing on the property.

The suspect’s lack of cooperation prompted the officer to call for backup from the North Adams Police Department.

Responding shift officers arrived shortly to provide assistance.

Upon further investigation, a female was discovered hiding on the side of the abandoned building.

The search of the vicinity unearthed approximately 1,029 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value between $61,740 and $102,900.

Officers also confiscated around $1,741 in cash and a digital scale, indicative of drug trafficking activities.

Both suspects were arraigned today in Northern Berkshire District Court on charges of trespassing and trafficking cocaine in quantities of 200 grams or more.
