NEW HAVEN — A man was arrested Thursday night after crashing into a CT Transit bus while fleeing from a traffic stop.

At 9:49 p.m., New Haven police detectives and officers with the Criminal Intelligence Unit and Shooting Task Force spotted a vehicle on Forbes Avenue near Woodward Avenue.

The car matched the description of one that had recently escaped the West Haven Police Department.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, identified as Jamie Cooper, born Feb. 28, 1997, tried to escape into East Haven.

Police deployed Stop Sticks to disable the vehicle’s tires, but during the pursuit, Cooper ran a traffic signal and collided with a CT transit bus.

The crash caused minor damage to the bus and significant front-end damage to Cooper’s vehicle.

Following the collision, Cooper fled on foot but was swiftly apprehended by officers.

Cooper was charged with failure to obey an officer’s signal, reckless driving, engaging in pursuit, interfering with an officer, evading responsibility, misuse of a marker plate, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

He was taken to the detention area of the police department for processing.
