Franklin police K9 tracks down suspect hiding near highway

FRANKLIN — A suspect accused of multiple assault charges was apprehended yesterday afternoon after a successful search led by K9 Officer Mike Gilboy and his canine partner Robbi, along with assistance from other officers on duty.

The chase began when the individual fled through the woods from the Independence Place Apartments on Upper Union Street.

The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was discovered by the police team concealing himself behind a large rock with a view of the 495 highway.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the Franklin Police Department’s K9 unit and the shift officers, the situation was resolved peacefully.

The suspect was placed under arrest without further incident and is now facing charges that include Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault & Battery, and Assault & Battery on a Person with an Intellectual Disability.

The Franklin Police Department has not released further details about the incident or the suspect’s identity pending the ongoing investigation.
