1 min read

NEWMARKET — Several roads in downtown Newmarket will be closed Sunday, April 7, due to the annual Great Bay Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K races, the Newmarket Police Department has announced.

The event, which follows the same route as in previous years, will result in the closure of Main St from the intersection at Elm St on the north end to the intersection with Gerry Ave on the south end, including the intersection of South St. All side roads leading onto Main St will also be barricaded.

The closures will begin at 7 a.m. and are expected to last until 3:30 p.m.

A detour will be in place redirecting southbound traffic from Elm St to Packers Falls Rd, to Main St, to Gerry Ave, and then to Exeter St. Northbound traffic will follow the reverse route.

Portions of the detour will be temporarily closed from 9 a.m. to around 9:45 a.m., including Elm St and North Main St from Dame Rd to the detour’s start.

These roads will reopen as soon as the runner traffic allows.

Additional streets affected by the race are Beech Street Extension, Beech St, Cedar St, Elder St, Forest St, Grape St, Salmon St, Piscassic St, Bay Rd, Dame Rd, and Cushing Rd.

Residents and visitors are advised to avoid the area if possible and to allow extra time for detour navigation.
