Westbrook police make arrests in connection with Cumberland Street shooting

WESTBROOK — Two Westbrook residents were arrested late last night in connection with the shooting investigation at 290 Cumberland Street that took place last week, according to Westbrook Police Department officials.

Willie Banks, 41, and Melissa Staples, 31, were both taken into custody and charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.

Following their arrests, Banks and Staples were transported to the Cumberland County Jail.

The investigation remains active as police continue to piece together the events that led to the shooting.
