Yarmouth girls found safe near railway tracks amid harsh weather conditions

YARMOUTH — After a concerned citizen reported suspicious activity, local law enforcement agencies successfully located two missing girls near the St. Lawrence and Atlantic Railway tracks on Saturday night.

The girls were found at about 10 p.m. in a wooded area off the tracks behind 121 Middle Rd, as wind speeds increased and temperatures dropped with snow starting to fall.

A Cumberland Fire Department – Maine EMS crew, already on standby nearby, quickly provided medical evaluation.

The girls were found to be in good condition and were subsequently reunited with their anxious parents.

Officials credited the combined efforts of the Yarmouth Police Department, Falmouth Police Department, Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, and Cumberland County Regional Communication Center in averting what could have become a dire situation.

Authorities expressed their gratitude to the local resident whose alertness and willingness to report their concerns played a critical role in the rescue.
