EAST BURKE — A Sutton man was charged with driving under the influence early Tuesday morning after his vehicle was discovered off the roadway in inclement weather conditions, according to Vermont State Police.

Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks responded to a report at 3:46 a.m. of a motor vehicle incident near VT-114 and White School Road.

Upon arrival, they encountered 62-year-old Christopher Lafleur, who explained his vehicle lost traction on White School Road and went down an embankment as he approached VT-114.

Although Lafleur’s vehicle was not damaged and he was uninjured, troopers noted signs of impairment during their interaction.

Subsequent field sobriety tests indicated that Lafleur had been operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

Lafleur was arrested and taken to the St. Johnsbury Barracks for processing.

He has been cited to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on April 8 at 8:30 a.m. to face DUI charges.

The East Burke Fire Department provided assistance at the scene of the incident.
