RUTLAND — A Pownal woman was cited for attempting to smuggle tobacco and marijuana into the Marble Valley Correctional Facility, officials said Wednesday.

Vermont State Police said Wynetta Burdick, 38, was caught by correctional facility staff on Feb. 4 during a scheduled visit at the state prison in Rutland.

The incident, which took place at approximately 2:42 p.m., led to Burdick’s ejection from the premises and subsequent legal action.

After an investigation, authorities issued Burdick a Vermont Civil Violation Complaint for introducing tobacco into the correctional facility.

She was also cited for transportation of alcohol, tobacco, or regulated drugs into places of detention.

Burdick has been ordered to appear in Vermont Superior Court on May 6 at 8:30 a.m. to face the charges.
