New Bedford man arrested on cocaine trafficking charges

NEW BEDFORD — Narcotics detectives have arrested a 46-year-old south-end man after seizing more than 100 grams of cocaine from his apartment following a targeted investigation.

On March 18, Det. Nathaniel Almeida wrapped up his probe into a suspected cocaine distribution operation.

Jose Soto-Torres, the investigation’s focus, was taken into custody when a search warrant was executed at his residence.

Authorities discovered approximately 130 grams of cocaine and a small quantity of heroin during the search.

Items consistent with the packaging and preparation of narcotics for street sales, as well as $161 in cash, were also seized from the apartment.

Soto-Torres faces charges of trafficking cocaine in excess of 100 grams and possession of a class A substance.

The police are encouraging anyone with further information to come forward.
