State plow truck involved in crash on VT Route 100 in Killington

KILLINGTON — A Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) plow truck and a passenger vehicle were involved in a crash on Vermont Route 100 in Killington on Tuesday, March 19, at approximately 9:44 a.m.

According to the Vermont State Police investigation, the AOT plow truck, a 2017 International 999 driven by Russell Page, 54, of Rutland, was traveling northbound when it used a pull-off to make a U-turn.

During the maneuver, the plow on the front of the truck crossed into the southbound lane.

A 2015 Toyota Prius, driven by John Dettwiler, 65, of Royalton, with passenger Kathleen Hassey, 65, also of Royalton, was traveling southbound and unable to avoid colliding with the plow.

The Toyota Prius sustained extensive front-end damage, while the plow truck suffered damage to its plow and front end. No injuries were reported in the crash.

The operator of the plow truck, Russell Page, was found to be in violation of 23 VSA 1113 – Limitations on backing.
