1 min read

KEENE — A man wanted on multiple felony warrants led local law enforcement on a high-speed chase through Keene and Swanzey before being apprehended with a significant amount of suspected cocaine, authorities said Monday.

Clayton Whitten, 41, of Swanzey, New Hampshire, was seen operating a vehicle by Keene Police detectives on Saturday.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, Whitten failed to comply, triggering a pursuit through the two towns, according to officials.

During the chase, a Cheshire County Deputy Sheriff successfully deployed a tire deflation device, which eventually led to the halting of Whitten’s vehicle on Route 10 in Swanzey.

Whitten was taken into custody by Keene Police and Deputy Sheriffs.

Upon arrest, he was found in possession of a significant quantity of suspected cocaine, leading to an additional charge of possession of a controlled drug.

Following his arrest, Whitten was held at the Cheshire County House of Corrections.

He is scheduled to appear in Cheshire Superior Court on March 19.

The New Hampshire State Police and Swanzey Police provided assistance during the incident, which is still under investigation by the Keene Police Department.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to contact the Keene Police Department at 603-357-9820.
