NEW MILFORD — After a thorough investigation into a suspected overdose death reported on Nov. 28, New Milford Police Detectives have arrested Michael Garcia of Waterbury in connection with the illegal sale of narcotics that led to the victim’s death.

Garcia, 20, was identified by detectives as the person who provided the narcotics.

An arrest warrant was issued, charging him with second-degree manslaughter and sale of narcotics under Connecticut General Statutes 53a-56 and 21-277(a)(1)(A), respectively.

Following several failed attempts to locate him, New Milford Detectives collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Service.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Garcia in New York City on Feb. 20.

After a court hearing on March 15, Garcia waived his right to fight extradition.

In coordination with the Litchfield County State’s Attorney’s Office, New Milford Detectives traveled to Rikers Island Correctional Facility to extradite the suspect back to Connecticut.

Garcia has been processed and is being held on a $150,000 bond.

He is scheduled to appear before the Torrington Superior Court on March 19 to respond to the charges of manslaughter and sale of narcotics.
