Hyannis man in stable condition after shooting, suspect arrested

HYANNIS — A 41-year-old man was hospitalized with gunshot wounds after a shooting incident on Winter Street, according to the Barnstable Police Department.

The police received a distress call around 6:20 p.m. Friday from a woman who reported that a man with multiple gunshot wounds had arrived at her home seeking help.

Officers from the Barnstable Police Patrol Division, along with the Cape Cod Regional SWAT Team and Barnstable Police Detective Division, responded to the scene.

Investigators identified the victim as a Hyannis resident and determined he had been shot by a 26-year-old man, also from Hyannis, who was known to the victim.

The injured man was initially treated at Cape Cod Hospital before being transferred to a medical facility in Boston.

He is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect was apprehended by the Plymouth Police Department without incident.

He is facing charges including Assault by Dangerous Weapon – Firearm, Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery, and multiple firearms-related offenses.

The accused has been detained on $100,000 cash bail and is scheduled for arraignment at Barnstable District Court on Monday.
