RICHMOND — A head-on collision on US Route 2 near Cochran Road left two vehicles totaled and drivers injured on Feb. 23.

Vermont State Police responded to the scene around 8:26 p.m. where they found a 2010 Toyota Rav4 driven by 31-year-old Dennis MacDonald of Bakersfield and a 2020 Toyota 4Runner operated by 49-year-old Rebecca Duke of Brownsville.

Initial investigations indicated that MacDonald, who was not wearing a seatbelt, veered into oncoming traffic and collided with Duke’s southbound vehicle.

MacDonald suffered head and leg injuries, while Duke sustained minor injuries; both were wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.

They were transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment.

MacDonald showed signs of alcohol impairment at the crash site, and subsequent blood tests confirmed he was over the legal limit.

He has been cited to appear at the Chittenden County Superior Court on April 25 at 8:15 a.m. to face DUI charges.
