Lexington police probe attempted child abduction

LEXINGTON — A report of an attempted child abduction has prompted an investigation by the Lexington Police Department, officials said Friday.

The incident occurred on Thursday at a Wood Street residence around 2 p.m. when an elementary school-age child was reportedly grabbed from behind while playing in their backyard.

The child said the assailant placed a hand over their mouth but managed to escape and run to safety.

The suspect fled the scene as well.

Authorities have a limited description of the suspect, who was last seen wearing all black clothing and a black ski mask.

The Lexington Police Department is conducting a full investigation into the incident and is collaborating with regional detective groups to gather more information.
