BOSTON — Officers from the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a Dorchester man on firearm charges following a traffic stop on Talbot Avenue and Washington Street late Wednesday night.

At about 10:15 p.m., police observed a vehicle with revoked insurance and failure to obey a stop sign.

Upon initiating a traffic stop using the cruiser’s emergency lights and sirens, officers advised the operator, identified as Steve Stephen, 33, that the vehicle would be towed.

During the inventory search of the vehicle, a loaded Bryco Arms Jennings 9mm handgun with one round in the chamber and ten rounds in the magazine was discovered.

Stephen was immediately handcuffed and taken into custody.

He faces charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Stephen is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
