RUTLAND — A man was taken into custody Saturday evening by Vermont State Police on a slew of charges including felony retail theft and identity theft.

Michael Chionchio, 40, was located by troopers around 7:30 p.m. in the Hannaford parking lot in Rutland Town.

Chionchio had been sought for an incident at a nearby plaza where he provided a false name upon his initial arrest.

When troopers attempted to apprehend him, Chionchio failed to comply with commands and actively resisted.

Following his arrest, Chionchio was processed at the Rutland Barracks.

Due to an outstanding Vermont Parole Warrant, he was held without bail at the Marble Valley Regional Correction Facility.

In addition to being held on the parole warrant, Chionchio’s bail was set at $10,000.00.

Chionchio is scheduled to appear in Rutland Criminal Court to face charges including retail theft, identity theft, providing false reports, impeding public officers, and resisting arrest.
