SPRINGFIELD — A school resource officer responded to a large disturbance at the High School of Science and Technology at approximately 2:10 p.m.

Monday, where one suspect brandished a firearm, struck a victim, and discharged a single round from within the school’s hallway, shooting through a window to the exterior.

Authorities confirmed that no individuals were shot and there were no serious injuries following the incident.

While officers have taken one suspect into custody, the individual responsible for the gunfire remains at large.

The Springfield Police Detective Bureau, led by Captain Trent Duda, is actively investigating the circumstances leading up to the event.

Initial findings suggest that a security door was compromised by a student who allowed the assailants to enter the school premises.

The police department has announced plans to release additional information on Tuesday or as soon as it becomes available.
